The state government has issued an order detailing the guidelines of the 'Shakti Yojana' implemented by the Siddaramaiah government to provide free travel to women in the state. Under the scheme, women are advised to get 'Shakti Smart Cards' to avail free travel benefits. However, it is important to note that this scheme is only applicable for intra-state travel.
Luxury buses such as Rajahansa, Non AC Sleeper, Vayuvajra, Airavata, Airavata Club Class, Airavata Gold Class, Ambari, Ambari Dream Class, Ambari Utsav, Fly Bus and EV Power Plus buses are not included in the scheme. As part of the initiative, 50% seats will be reserved for men, except in buses operated by BMTC, AC, Luxury and Inter-State buses.
To get 'Shakti Smart Cards' for free travel, women have to apply through Seva Sindhu. The application process will be available for the next three months.
Until they get 'Shakti Smart Cards', women can use their identity cards issued by the Government of India or the Government of Karnataka, which include a photograph and residential address.
